Hog Roast Tips From The Experts
- Make sure you source the right size pig for your event. A nice 50 pound is a good weight for first timers and will feed up to 30 people or so – this will take about 8 hours to cook. Wherever you buy it from make sure you ask them to clean and gut it for you. It is also essential that you need to bear in mind the larger the hog the longer it takes to cook.
- Make sure you have the right spit – you can just hire a hog roasting machine from us!
- Slow roasting your hog is essential so indirect heat is needed. Once your coals are ready push the hot coals to the edge of the pit closest to the spit. The temperature should be hot enough that when you hold your hand over the heat for a few seconds. Continue to fuel your fire throughout the cooking process.
- Only remove the meat after letting the hog rest for about 30 minutes and enjoy.
