There are times when Big Roast are asked to provide our Hog Roast service at locations without a power supply.
For a Whole Hog a power supply is crucial as the Hog Roast needs a little motor to constantly turn it, thus ensuring an even roast which is key to produces thoroughly cooked and succulent meat.
It would be impossible for a chef to constantly turn the Hog Roast by hand for the full six hour cooking time but that is why we offer the more practical, in these cases, option of a Spit Roast.
The chef will still need to turn the meat by hand but each Loin weighs approximately six kilos as opposed to the 55 kilo weight of a Whole Hog it is at least possible.
The chef arrives at these ‘powerless’ events with fire proof, elbow length gloves to protect him from the intense heat and although it is still problematic and hard work we at Big Roast take pride in rarely, if ever, being beaten by circumstances.
